Bitcoin reclaimed ground. The recovery still needs support. | Week Ending Sep 20, 2026

CRIW #45: Cover

1. Bitcoin Reclaimed Ground

Bitcoin closed the week at $81,169, up 5.66% from the prior Sunday close. Ether finished at $2,644.73, up 6.79%, outperforming BTC over the completed week. Monday’s market snapshot put total crypto capitalization at $2.807 trillion and BTC dominance at 58.16%. Fear & Greed read 70, Greed. Prices and sentiment recovered together; the next test is whether that recovery can hold.

The Fed raised its target range by 25 basis points to 3.75–4.00%. Crypto’s rebound alongside tighter policy makes the response worth examining, but does not establish that policy risk has disappeared. Bitcoin fund flows recovered late enough to leave the completed US week only slightly positive. Ether funds remained negative. The next question is whether buyers can defend the recovered ground when the initial rebound loses momentum.

Key themes this week:

  • BTC has moved back above the area discussed in our previous edition; the quality of subsequent support matters.
  • A positive weekly ETF total can conceal an uneven sequence of buying and selling.
  • Bearish forecast model signals against rising prices require scrutiny before a short is considered.
  • Token sales, payments-platform launches and protocol upgrades represent different stages of delivery.

2. Strengths: Buyers Recovered More Than One Market

  • BTC is back above its nearer trend reference. Its Monday reference price exceeds both the former $78,500 reference area and the approximately $78,451 completed-day 20-day average. That is a material improvement on #44’s position below former support.
  • Recovery extends beyond BTC and ETH in the examined group. SOL gained 11.91%, AAVE 10.55% and HYPE 21.06% over the completed week. All three traded above their completed-day 20-day averages.
  • Bitcoin ETF buyers returned late in the US week. Thursday and Friday brought a combined $592.5 million of net inflows, reversing most of the preceding damage.

3. Weaknesses: The Recovery Has Conditions

  • The policy constraint tightened. The Fed’s Sep 16, 2026 decision raised rates while its statement continued to describe elevated inflation. A rally after the decision can coexist with a more demanding financing environment. Without a verified expectations baseline, we are not calling the hike a surprise or attributing every market move to it.
  • Ether’s fund flows did not confirm the price recovery. US spot ETH products lost $140.6 million across Sep 14, 2026–Sep 18, 2026 despite Friday’s $143.7 million inflow. Tuesday through Thursday were negative. The distinction: spot price improvement and sustained fund demand are separate pieces of evidence.
  • Sentiment recovered faster than trade eligibility. Fear & Greed at 70 suggests renewed risk appetite, but supplies no entry discipline. BTC’s bullish longer-horizon model directions fail the directional-history threshold. ETH remains neutral on those horizons. A more optimistic market does not justify adjusting the process to produce a trade.
  • The strongest bearish candidates are also rebounding. ONDO and SAND pass the forecast model-only screen while trading above their 20-day averages. Selling solely because a forecast points lower would ignore the current price response. The missing evidence is a failed recovery with a defensible entry and invalidation, not another bearish label.

CRIW #45: Price forecast dashboard

BTC-USD (Bitcoin)

Reference Price: $81,437

  • Verdict: Analyst Watch / No New Trade. Reassess if buyers establish and defend support around the reclaimed area.
  • Market Confluence Analysis: BTC’s agreeing three- and seven-day bullish directions are consistent with price above its approximately $78,451 20-day and $73,207 50-day averages. Our interpretation is that the visible recovery helps explain why a bullish forecast remains plausible. That is our analysis from observable conditions.
  • The ETF week also offers qualified support: late buying mattered, but the net result was nearly flat. The observed weekly high near $81,864 provides further context for whether price can extend the recovery, not a promised destination.
  • Trade Action: Monitor the $78,500 former reference area alongside the updated moving average. A defended retest would justify another review; renewed loss of that area would weaken the recovery interpretation. No entry, take-profit, stop or R:R is issued. A future setup needs a specified venue, candle timing, permitted fill, structural stop and expiry, as well as valid model gates.
  • Analyst Note: Last edition’s reclaim question has progressed because price is now above the area. It has not become a recorded strategy win: #44 issued no actionable BTC trade. Monday’s refresh leaves the history gate below threshold. A later improvement would prompt a new review, not retroactively activate this watch.

ETH-USD (Ethereum)

Reference Price: $2,664.52

  • Verdict: Analyst Watch / No New Trade. Watch whether support holds and fund demand improves.
  • Market Confluence Analysis: ETH trades above its approximately $2,491 completed-day 20-day average and $2,273 50-day average. Its recovery is therefore visible in price structure, and its completed-week gain exceeds BTC’s. Relative strength survived the final close, but does not by itself establish a qualified long.
  • Weekly ETF outflows further limit the case for describing the bounce as institutionally sponsored. None of this proves that ETH must fall; it means the available evidence does not establish the trade we would need to publish.
  • Trade Action: ETH’s Monday reference price is already above the completed week’s $2,655.71 high. A sustained hold above that former range boundary would improve the chart evidence; a return into the range would challenge the breakout. The approximately $2,491 trend reference provides wider context. It would still require a fresh model screen and a complete contract. Entries, targets, stops and R:R remain unissued; reassess at the next daily refresh or sooner if price structure changes.
  • Analyst Note: ETH remains useful as a comparison between improving price and weaker fund flows. That comparison can inform a market view without being promoted into an executable recommendation.

ONDO-USD (Ondo)

Reference Price: $0.430509

  • Verdict: Bearish Model Watch / No Short Order. Require a fresh failed retest or a breakdown followed by a rejected reclaim.
  • Market Confluence Analysis: ONDO now passes the model-only screen: its three- and seven-day directions agree downward, both horizons show model agreement, and the seven-day regression has the same sign. Refreshed aggregate daily volume exceeds the liquidity threshold. These facts make it a candidate for investigation, not a complete trade.
  • The price evidence is a substantial counterargument. ONDO gained 26.15% over the completed week and trades above its approximately $0.36613 20-day and $0.35905 50-day averages. Its observed weekly range extends from $0.323088 to $0.441448. A bearish projection may be consistent with a reversal scenario after the rebound, but no verified asset-specific event in this review establishes why that reversal must occur. We cannot infer hidden model causes from its output.
  • The reported seven-day directional-history field is 87.50%. Its sample-size denominator has not been independently established here; it is not certainty about the next forecast. Current directional confidence is a separate measure. Neither figure excuses entering against rising price without a defined failure pattern.
  • Trade Action: Review a failed rebound or rejected reclaim only after it appears on a specified venue and timeframe. The resulting structure must support a permitted fill, stop and separate TP1/TP2 rewards. None is issued today. Continued defended strength would weaken the bearish interpretation. Review at the next daily refresh, with a fresh check of both the model and price; this watch expires Sep 28, 2026 at 07:00 WIB.
  • Analyst Note: The change from #44 is that ONDO’s model gates have improved while its price has moved sharply against the bearish direction.

SAND-USD (The Sandbox)

Reference Price: $0.04074649

  • Verdict: Bearish Model Watch / No Short Order. Require evidence that the rebound fails before considering a short contract.
  • Market Confluence Analysis: SAND’s three- and seven-day directions agree downward, with matching model agreement and a negative seven-day regression. Its reported seven-day directional history is 66.67%, above the frozen threshold, and refreshed aggregate daily volume is approximately $32.8 million. These checks establish model eligibility for further Analysis:
  • The chart remains mixed. SAND gained 14.64% over the completed week. Its Monday price is above both its approximately $0.03774 20-day and $0.03978 50-day averages. A rejection at the longer average is no longer the current structure; sellers need a new breakdown and rejected reclaim to restore that case. The model’s bearish output has not established that sellers control price.
  • Trade Action: Monitor whether buyers can sustain the recovery through the longer moving-average area. A rejection followed by weaker structure would prompt a fresh review; a defended advance would weaken the short interpretation. No limit order, target, stop or R:R is issued. Aggregate turnover also does not substitute for venue-specific depth, spread and fill checks. Reassess at the next daily refresh or sooner if structure changes.
  • Analyst Note: SAND has now cleared both trend averages, weakening the earlier rejection scenario. Coverage tests countertrend discipline; it does not authorize capital.

6. Token Launch & Ecosystem Radar

This week’s radar separates a planned token distribution, a newly announced payments platform and an operational protocol upgrade.

CRIW #45: Token launch and ecosystem radar

Byzanlink ($BYZAN) — launch watch; a presale deadline before confirmed token distribution.

  • Why watch it: The project’s final Gems presale is scheduled to close Sep 21, 2026 at 18:00 WIB. Its tokenization infrastructure connects issuance and lifecycle management with access to structured financial products. The next useful milestone is what becomes deliverable after the sale.
  • Current Status: Pre-TGE according to the checked forward-looking sale terms. AlphaMind describes mid-November as the expected TGE/listing window, not a guaranteed date. That guidance concerns a different sale round; its price and vesting terms must not be substituted for Gems terms.
  • Monitoring Rationale: Confirm the scheduled sale close, distribution network, claim process and transferability as each milestone approaches. Completing a sale does not establish a liquid listing, delivered token utility or sustained product demand.

Chainlink ($LINK) — ecosystem development; Bottomline’s Global Pay Connect launch.

  • Why watch it: Bottomline’s Sep 17, 2026 announcement moves the story beyond a partnership announcement to a named payments-connectivity platform. Its release describes Chainlink infrastructure allowing financial institutions to connect existing systems with onchain payment rails.
  • Current Status: The company has announced the platform launch. This is an established ecosystem catalyst, not a token launch. The announcement does not show that every existing banking customer has adopted the service, or quantify actual onchain payment activity.
  • Monitoring Rationale: Follow disclosed deployments, transaction use and commercial economics. Existing customer reach indicates distribution potential; it cannot be counted as active blockchain users. Bottomline’s legacy payments volume is not Chainlink volume, and a platform integration does not establish proportional revenue or demand for LINK holders.

Stellar ($XLM) — follow-up from previous edition; Protocol 28 is active on public mainnet.

  • Why watch it: Last edition tracked a scheduled upgrade vote. The public network now reports Protocol 28, converting that watch item into a verified operational milestone.
  • Current Status: Activation is confirmed by the checked public-network state on Sep 21, 2026. The exact activation time and vote tally have not been independently verified, so the planned vote timestamp is not presented as the observed activation time. This update is separate from the bank stablecoin pilot covered in #44.
  • Monitoring Rationale: The next question is what developers and users do with the upgraded network. An active protocol version does not establish broad commercial availability of the bank pilot, increased economic activity or a proportional benefit to XLM. Track adoption after delivery rather than treating delivery as the end of the investment case.

7. Strategic Recap & Forward Outlook

The recovery has answered part of last week’s question: BTC is back above its former support reference, and several examined assets have regained their shorter moving averages. It has not answered whether those levels will hold. Fund flows were uneven, the Fed tightened policy, and model eligibility remains narrower than the rebound in prices.

Forward Outlook — Week of Sep 21, 2026–Sep 27, 2026

  • Macro Watch: Thursday, Sep 24, 2026 brings initial jobless claims at 19:30 WIB and new residential sales at 21:00. Friday, Sep 25, 2026 brings durable goods orders at 19:30 and final Michigan consumer sentiment at 21:00. The current BEA calendar places both GDP’s third estimate and August personal income and outlays, including PCE, on Sep 30, 2026, outside this outlook week. Recheck release schedules before taking risk around them.
  • BTC Key Levels: The former $78,500 reference and approximately $78,451 20-day average organize the support review. The observed $81,864 weekly high frames the upper-range test.
  • Altcoin Outlook: Track whether recovery survives in a consistently measured group. ONDO and SAND illustrate why a bullish price response must be weighed against bearish forecasts. Better project infrastructure and stronger token prices also need separate explanations.
